Students are continuing to work through the Freak The Mighty novel study. This will take us pretty much to the end of the year.

All grades are up to date as of this morning. Students are currently working their way through the Freak The Mighty novel study, and should have the work up to and including Chapter 12 handed in by now.

Please find the chapter to Freak the Mighty at the top of this page. Students are to be using these to complete their work at home, as they will not be permitted to take a book from the school.
April 29, 2019
This week all three classes will begin their novel study on Freak The Mighty. This unit will take us pretty much to the end of the year. There will be a heavy focus on reading comprehension, vocabulary and summarization techniques.

Students finished their Poetry Unit as of today. Next week they will have the opportunity to share some of their poetry with their classmates.
March 29, 2019
Students are continuing to work on their Poetry Portfolios from now until Easter. Accelerated Reader points are due Friday, April 5th.
March 14th, 2019
All three classes are continuing to work on their Poetry Portfolios. This week they took a look at riddles and 5 Senses Poems, with Miss Peacock. As the majority of this unit will be based on final assessments, students and parents will not see a lot of summative grades given throughout the unit. Students are receiving formative feedback as they work through writing their poems.

All three classes started their Poetry Units this week, with Miss Peacock. She will be teaching this unit over the next 5 weeks.
All students need to have a duotang for this Unit, starting Monday.
February 26, 2019
All three classes will write their Fatty Legs Unit exam on this Friday, March 1st. The exam will consist of 10 multiple choice, reading comprehension questions and 15 matching vocabulary questions.
7MR is currently reading Underground to Canada as a read-aloud book.
7KE is currently reading The Boy In The Striped Pajamas as a read aloud book.
7HD is currently finishing up nine, ten as their read aloud.
All three classes will start the Poetry Unit next week, with our student teacher from the University of Lethbridge, Miss Peacock. The classes were introduced to her yesterday and we are quite excited to have her join us starting next Monday.

Students are all done their midterms and back into the swing of regular classes. We are continuing to work on reading strategies and comprehension and our novel Study on "Fatty Legs". We are also continuing to read the book "nine, ten: A September 11 Story" as a class.
January 11, 2019
This week all three classes began a new read aloud book, called nine-ten: A September 11 Story.
We also started looking through vocabulary for a novel study we will begin next week, called Fatty Legs. This story is a true story of a young girls experience in residential schools. We will spend the next 6-8 weeks completing this book.
December 14, 2018
Students were given four full class periods to type their good copies of their short stories in class. Reminders were given every day that if they needed more time than what I was able to provide in class, they needed to speak with me ahead of time.
Next week we will finish up this unit with creating and designing our title pages, for the short stories.
December 7, 2018
This week our main focus was writing the rough drafts of our short stories. Students were given close to two hours worth of class time to finish writing their short stories and begin typing them on the computer.
I have encouraged students to write at home if they require more time, as their final, typed copies due on Friday, December 14th.
* Remember final copies must be typed in 12 point Arial font, and 1.5 spaced.

This week we focused on planning and beginning to write our short stories. Students were given three full class periods to plan and begin their writing. Their rough drafts will be due on Tuesday, Dec. 4th.
Final, typed copies due on Friday, December 14th.

November 23, 2018
We wrote our short story unit test on Tuesday and began working on writing our own short stories this week. Together we discussed the elements needed in their stories and brainstormed ways to plan and develop our writing.
Next week we will continue to plan and develop our short stories before beginning to write them. Their final copy will be due on Friday, December 14th.
November 16, 2018
This we finished up learning about comma rules and usage, and reviewed our short stories. Students have been given a study sheet for our short story test on Tuesday, Nov. 20th.

This week we worked to finish the final short story of our unit, titled "All is Calm" by, Ann Walsh.
We then began to learn about comma usage and rules, which we will finish up next week before writing our short story unit test the following week on Tuesday, Nov. 20th.

This week we started a new read aloud book titled, "Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus" by Dusti Bowling.
Students will also read the story "For Pete's Snake" this week, by Ellen Conford. We will begin next week with the accompanying assignment focusing on dialogue and plot diagram, before beginning our final short story.
Ocotber 26, 2018
This week students were read the end of the read aloud book we have been covering, The Breadwinner. They will view the movie that goes with this book next week in class.
Students will also read the story "Zoo" this week, by Edward D. Hoch. They completed a set of assignments including a summary, to go along with this story.

October 19, 2018
This week students read two short stories in A Fiction Mix, The Hockey Sweater and Geraldine Moore: The Poet. They also received their Friendly Letters back as they all have been graded. I encourage students to look through the suggestions made, to help them correct their mistakes in the future.
October 11, 2018
This week students worked to finish up their friendly letters. These are due tomorrow if they have not yet handed them in. Students have had two classed to type and print their letters, therefor will not be given an extension, should they not have it handed in.
Next week we will be starting our "Fiction Mix" Unit, which will take an in dept look at a variety of short stories.

This week students worked on their friendly letters. All classes should have a rough draft complete and ready to type for next Wednesday, when they return form their long weekend.

This week we focused on reviewing sentence structure and types of sentences. Students completed a flip book which was submitted for grading Next week we will begin working on our first major written assignment, a Friendly Letter.

September 11th, 2018
We have completed our beginning LA activities, that help me assess where is student is currently proficient. As of today, we have started a short grammar unit on the use of verbs, adjectives and nouns. We will work through this unit for the next couple of weeks.
Students are required to read 40-60 minutes/week outside of school. I would ask that parents and guardians help to encourage this reading. It is very important for the overall growth in students' learning, for them to be reading as often as possible.
